MWV summer 2010: who departs?

In Ndera (Rwanda), Piet and Jan will do their best for improving care and in particular the treatment of children with mental disorders.
In Sosame (Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo), it is intended that Piet focuses on child psychiatry, while Jan will go on working on the new files for the patients. Together they will plead for a multidisciplinary approach and ... will of course themselves set a good example! A supervisor with a sick child to Ndera.

In the hospital of Djuma (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Leo will closely cooperate with the local general practitioners. He will help them to interpret the laboratory results and to adapt their treatment accordingly. Also, they will supervise and guide them during the consultations.
Ingrid will help them with these consultations and explain to the Congolese nurses what their task is. Furthermore, she will teach the local staff on basic techniques in wound care and hygiene.

Paul and Herman have a totally different mission in the General Reference Hospital of Djuma. They will ensure that there is running water in the hospital. Together with an engineer of Vivaqua (Belgium's largest producer of drinking water) they will further rehabilitate the water reservoirs and also evaluate the water project. Hopefully, the hospital will never again be without clean water after this mission!

Maternity Patients.

In the Hospital of Mibilizi (Rwanda), Nathalie will explain local doctors about disturbances in the menstrual cycle. In addition, she will make her young Rwandese colleagues familiar with the use of ultrasound machines so that better diagnoses can be made.
Together with local personnel, Nadine will start up a neonatology service so that new-born babies with a too low birth weight can be treated. In addition to that, it will also be broken in on how premature babies can be monitored better.

In Akamuri, a centre for mentally handicapped children in Bujumbura (Burundi), Christine will help the new director with both, the organisation of the centre and with the management of the personnel. Given the fact that she has already visited the centre several times, she will also check whether the MWV protocols taught earlier are followed.

The Children Akamuri 1.The Children Akamuri 2.

In the hospital of Kabgayi (Rwanda), Fernand will focus on the resuscitation techniques with new-born children and the care of premature children in cooperation with the new director. Her colleague Delphine will teach on the treatment of infections in newborns and how/when they must administer oxygen. So every child in Kabgayi gets the chance to live a long life.

Nadine will assist the head midwife in the maternity ward of Monvu Democratic Republic of the Congo They specifically asked to check on the work organisation. Also, they want to specialise in order to be able to take care of their new-born children as well as possible. The first 10 minutes are crucial in the live of a baby and a lot of damage from, for example, oxygen deprivation can be avoided by a quick and accurate reaction. We wish you success, Nadine!
