Generous Donations Give Life

Dr. Lucien Lefevre has already been to Africa 7 times to operate on patients with cleft lips. Because in Africa, children who are born with cleft lips are hidden: they must not be seen because the people there believe that they are jinxed. Lucien gave a speech on this issue in front of the Davids Foundation in Aalst: they gave EUR 250 to Medics Without Vacation for the children in Burundi. Thank you Davids Foundation!

When our director, Jan Goossens, explained about Medics Without Vacation in front of the public of Inner Wheel Schaffen, they immediately deposited EUR 250 onto our bank account in order to enable us to further extend our projects, thank you for this.

Bieke Servranckx is an enthusiastic OK nurse who, since 1998, has been donating her vacation to MWV every year. Thanks to KVLV Kwatrecht where she went to speak about MWV, she is can give us now EUR 150. Thank you Bieke!

Fistulas is an issue touching many people deep in their hearts. There is nothing that is so hard for a woman than to loose a child and to remain maimed.

On the 3rd March, 2010, Dr. Emile de Backer and Dr. Musa Tugilimana went to speak about the MWV actions taken against fistulas in front of the women of the Zonta Club. This service club carries the slogan: 'Change the lives of women'. With their donation of EUR1569.40, we got the possibility to change the lives a number of women with fistulasvia MWV. Thank you Zonta!

Last month we had to say goodbye to one of our faithful volunteers, Dr. Greta Mullie. Her family launched the action: Turn a tear into a smile: "We also knew Greta as somebody who wanted to help through her profession. Africa is a continent that cries for help and she had been there a couple of times in order to give that help. In order not to let end her work just like this, I propose that all friends together lay down one flower beside her urn and that all those who want it deposit money for the sake of Medics Without Vacation. We think that by this, we do honour to Greta in a better way than all bouquets together."

Thanks to this passionate plea, the nice amount of EUR 3010 has been collected. This allows MWV to finance its mission in Houndé, Burkina Faso (theproject Greta had been working on). Thank you, Greta. Her husband wrote: "Also I am happy with the success. I know that this would have made Greta especially happy."

Greta during her last months

In March, our chairman Dr. Patrick Peeters introduced MWV and his work as paediatrician in Kimbondo. About 200 people came to listen to his story in the great festival hall in Ath. Patrick told them that he needed EUR 300 to be able to treat 14 patients with sickle-cell disease in Kimbondo over a period of three yearsand he collected EUR 330 selling pictures. This means thus that there are 14 children with new possibilities.

But Patrick's story has touched more people: Pr. Wollak heard about our actions shortly before she died. As a doctor, a specialist in fertility problems, she left us EUR 37,466.62 with the will that this money be applied for projects with regard to mother and child care. We hope that it will mean comfort to her family that this gesture can make a big difference for MWVand above all for the many women and children in Africa! Our well-meant thanks to Patrick and of course to Pr. Wollak!

Do these stories have an effect on you and do you also have an idea on how to raise money for MWV? Then just contact us: we accompany you with each step. Because thanks to generous donations, we are able to safe more African lives!
