Information about this hopital

Description

This outpatient clinic is situated about 30 kilometres east of Cotonou and is based in the official capital of Benin.
It is an independent Protestant outpatient clinic which is striving for broader recognition and wishes to develop into a high performance centre by means of a partnership with MWV. This outpatient clinic is also under the auspices of AMCES (Private, Confessional, and Social Health Care Association). It has 60 beds and provides the classical services under one roof.
Basically, it serves a population of 500,000 (Porto Novo and 2 neighbouring villages) There are 3 doctors and 1 stomatologist. A team of 8 nurses, 15 ancillary nurses, 3 laboratory technicians, and radiology technician make up the paramedical team.
In April 2006, the clinic was forced to move to a much smaller location where there was only room for 15 hospital beds. This meant that MWV was obliged to terminate the surgical partnership. However, a new laboratory was built and this has retained our support.
In May 2007, an extra building was rented by the outpatient clinic and this meant an increase in the number of hospital beds. The hospital has also appointed a permanent gynaecologist. MWV was requested immediately to resume full co-operation.

Results of the missions.

The increase in the number of beds and the appointment of a gynaecologist means that we can resume full co-operation with the outpatient clinic. Co-operation between the MWV missions always runs smoothly. The staff are highly motivated and want to see the outpatient clinic make progress.

An assessment mission is planned for 2008 when we will discuss further plans at length. The acquisition of a permanent gynaecologist means it is expedient to plan for an extra gynaecology mission to provide specific teaching and training.
