Description

At the request of Care-Believe-Manage (CBM), we are assisting this centre which is trying to support as many (physically and mentally) handicapped children as possible by organising training courses on specific subjects for physiotherapists from Inkuru, but also from other centres in Rwanda. This will help the centre to develop a good name and reputation. This will mean it will inspire more confidence in the local population and make MWV more widely known amongst all centres which work in the field of orthopaedics and revalidation.
MWV is working together with CBM in this centre. CBM provides the infrastructure and the students, whilst MWV provides specialist trainers. This means that MWV can provide complementary assistance in view of its expertise and training.
The training courses are given to groups, but are practical in orientation. Here, too, people are trained who become the trainer’s colleagues on the ground. As regards material, we are assisting this partner with good quality plasters.

Results of the missions.

There is a need to continue with this partner and give practical training in the sphere of arm orthoses and arm protheses and scoliosis. However, training is also required in the field of physiotherapy since there are very few specialists in Rwanda for IMC children.

CBM and the centre are extremely enthusiastic about the quality of our volunteers and have asked for an increase in the number of missions. Since the National Physical Handicap Rehabilitation Plan (PNRHP - Plan National de Réhabilitation des Handicapés Physiques) is also involved in this project, it is good for our credibility with the Rwandese government to support this project more intensively in the coming years.
